A Smooth Start

The harvest has ended, the summer is far spent and we're back in school again! Our school year has gotten off to a really good start and everyone appears to be ready to go. The freshman class that came over from the middle school is very large, we have approximately 230 students in the freshman class. This summer we had our 1st open house and it went very well. The parental support was outstanding and the freshmen, although nervous, seemed to have a better feel for what to do on the 1st day. Mrs. Cox and Ms. Wilson spearheaded the open house and are to be commended.
This summer CCHS received approximately $5000.00 from representative Martin and $2500.00 from the Lemak Award to upgrade the girls locker room. We commend coach Brian Carter for pursuing the award by filling out the proper paperwork to receive one of only 10 awards that were given out across the state. Our girls volleyball team and our boys football team will "kick off" soon and we are hoping for very successful seasons. I want to thank Mr. Joe Dennis and coach Josey Shannon for keeping the fields up, they look great. We want to encourage everyone to come out and support our student/athletes and the band, they've really worked hard over the summer.
We humbly ask, as we move through another school year, that everyone will keep us in your prayers. We work hard to provide a safe environment for our students and we hope and trust that all will be well for this 2010/2011 school year!!! Thank you.

How Time Flies

Boy! How time flies! I know that's a cliche but it seems that way! I want to update and inform everyone since my last blog post of what's going on. Congratulations goes out to alot of people who to took on assignments that were very beneficial to the success of Chilton County High School. Mr. Shannon with school improvement. Dr. Stewart with SACS (school accreditation). Mrs. Hand, Mrs. Arrington, Ms. Wyatt with the Prom. Mr. Nix, Mrs. Caver and Mr. Dorminey with SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). Mrs. Jaimee Bee with Relay for Life. Ms. Wilson with the CCHS Challenge. Mr. and Mrs. Mckee with the Blast. Mrs. Scruggs, Ms. Quinn, Mrs. Mckee, Mrs. Moates, Mrs. Ward, Mrs. Roy and Mr. Miller with the reading committee. Mrs. Ward and Mrs. Lewis with the Graduation exam and the upcoming graduation ceremonies.

As one can see the faculty/staff are working really hard to help our students at CCHS to reach their full potential in a safe and caring environment. One thing that we strive to do is work as a team and not worry about who gets the credit. "Together we stand and devided we fall". Chilton County High School is currently working on developing pacing guides and reorganizing our departments to be efficient and effective in providing instruction to our student body. We have implemented a reading program that will hopefully raise our reading scores on the graduation exam by providing a structured setting of 15 minutes of reading every day. Students who take advantage of this program are rewarded by earning 2% points assigned to whatever class they are struggling in at the end of the grading period. For instance if they have a 68 at the end of a grading period, they can earn a 70 by taking advantage of this opportunity. Parents please encourage your students to read, this is a great program!

Special thanks to our student leadership team: Macee Thomas, Caitlyn Cox, Nathan Hudson, Micheal Elder, Nicholas Looney, Amos Davidson, Anmol Ahuja, and Anna Adams. These students did a great job of leading the SACS Review Team around the school.

Special thanks to Coach Hand for the coaching job that he has done since being back at CCHS, he has resigned to spend more time with his son. Thanks also to Mr. and Mrs. Mckee who are stepping down from the "Blast from the Past" after 18 very successful years. They are surely going to be missed. Mrs. Paige Scruggs will take the reigns of the "Blast from the Past" and we are confident that she will do a great job. Last but not least. Congratulations to Mr. Miller who was selected by the Regional Inservice Center at the University of Montevallo to be a trainer within our region. Go Tigers!!!
